ESUT HULT PRIZE TEAM WINS AT AFRICA REGIONAL LEVEL
Followed by series of awareness, mobilisation and empowerment by the Think Green Team under the aegis of Hult Prize represented the Enugu State University of Science And Technology at Accra, Ghana where the competition was held among other participating universities across the west Africa region. The regional competition witnessed universities from Kenya, Rwanda,Gambia, Nigeria, Ghana, & Sierra Leone. The hurdles began from the first stage at inter teams within the universities then progressed to national among competing universities then comes the regional after which the world cup will be held.
The Think Green Team (TG) focused on environmental remediation as the rate of which fossil fuels pose a threat to the survival of humans with excess of CFC emissions, they came up with Biogas/ Methane gas which can be used to light and heat in homes. The Biogas production was obtained from biodegradable wastes and non bio-degradables which posed a serious Environmental problem ab initio.
The Think Green project witnessed other successes in providing innovative biofertilizer to boost food production from which the waste is used as a raw material for the Methane production. The success of the team at the inter campus and national level saw increased rate in livelihood, reduced environmental degradation, increased food production and alternative to energy which posed a challenge to the host communities.
As they progressed to the regionals they were able to maintain a lead at the third position against 19 participating universities from 6 countries.
